Hand in hand in the rain

Posting another mix, this one in a more House-oriented direction again, featuring a combination of mine and my partner, Andrew's records. Also recorded this at the end of January, yet feels right for this time of year just as the season changes and the snow gives way to rain.

Also, a good time to post this now, since Andrew and I will be playing records again as INTERGEN

Disco Delivery Mix #9: Guest Mix for Sunshine After Dark

Dusting off the blog to post a guest mix I did for John Huck (AKA Wijit) and his Disco show, Sunshine After Dark. Two years ago at the onset of the pandemic, I largely put any DJing to the side not really knowing what was waiting on the other side, however I've been starting to hit the decks and play records outside of the apartment again. Did my first public DJ gig in over two years recently at The Little Jerry, a lovely listening bar here in Toronto (check them out if you're ever in the Toronto area and want to hear great local selectors on a top sound system), so John's invitation came along at just the right time!

Sunshine After Dark broadcasts online and on the radio out of CJSR 88.5 FM in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada every Thursday at 7 PM Mountain Time (0100 UTC), re-broadcasting Tuesdays on CKXU in Lethbridge, AB and Wednesdays on CHMA in Sackville, NB.

Disco Delivery Mix #8: Dealing with desire

As I try to get out there and play records more often these days, I'll be posting little mixes like this to accompany them. This particular mix as just over 30 minutes long, starting out in disco and moving into a more mid-tempo boogie groove in the second half. Disco Delivery Mix #7: Magic Minstrel

*tap* *tap* is this still on?

I know it has been a four year absence from updates and as one can imagine, quite a bit has happened in that time. Even if life has brought many other beautiful experiences, commitments and achievements, I'm happy to leave this blog up as an archive even if there's writing here that even I find a bit cringeworthy now. Lately though, I've been feeling the urge to start DJing and posting mixes again, so hopefully this blog can still serve as a repository for that.

I had recorded this little mix in late June as a laid-back summer mix, largely featuring records I had bought at the time. As I have in the past, this one isn't overly long (just over 30 minutes).

On a related note: If you're in Toronto, I'll be DJing at the lovely Handlebar in Kensington Market this coming Labour Day. If you happen to be in the area, I'd love to see some friendly faces.

Disco Delivery Mix #6: Summer Fever // DISCO HOSPITAL + DISCO DELIVERY = INTERGENERATIONAL

Usually around this time of year, I pull together a mix for Pride weekend.. This year is no different, however I have a bit more on my plate this time.. Tonight for Pride Saturday, I'll be DJing with Toronto artist Andrew Zealley (AKA Clinical Sonician), - a little night we're calling Disco Hospital + Disco Delivery present INTERGENERATIONAL.. Culling from our combined four/five decades of record collecting.. Disco Hospital is a reference to one of Zealley's recent works - his MFA Thesis exhibition Disco Hospital: Safe & Sound - an interdisciplinary research project investigating sound, queerness and non-Western healing practices. For tonight, we figured our titles went together well, as did our mutual love of vinyl. We'll be playing all wax tonight (Saturday June 27) at The Rivoli pool hall from 8 till late..

As far as the mix goes, this one's a bit shorter than usual, and only covers one decade of our five combined decades of music so perhaps not a full preview for tonight's offerings, but hopefully this little quick and dirty thing I pulled together will still be enjoyable..

Disco Delivery Mix #5: Midnight Rendezvous + Beam Me Up 2nd Anniversary & Bring Your Own Record Night

As some of you may have noticed, most of the musical content on here lately have been the mixes I've recorded from my turntables. Lately I've been trying to take that a little bit further and start DJing in actual places outside my apartment, in front of actual people. Luckily, the Beam Me Up boys - John and Dylan of A Digital Needle and Cyclist came along and invited me to be the opening DJ for the 2nd anniversary of their montly disco party here in Toronto. These guys have been setting it off every month for the last two years, so I can't thank them enough for being generous enough to let me play.. If you're in Toronto, come by tomorrow night (September 13th) at The Piston (937 Bloor Street W.). I'll be playing from about 10-11, and I'll be doing it on vinyl, plus there'll be all new visuals by the one Doc Dynamite, so drop in and say hi! (Note: there is a cover charge after 10:30pm)

Also, I've been DJing another little event nearby - the Bring Your Own Record night at The Steady Cafe & Bar (down the street at 1051 Bloor Street W.). It's been going now for the last two months and they're doing it again this coming Wednesday (September 17th). I'll be DJing from my collection, and if you bring a record or two in, I'll DJ from yours too.. Even if you don't have a record, come by and say hi, flip through the records I brought and tell me what you'd like to hear (there'll be plenty of disco, naturally).

With these two events on the horizon, I thought this would be the perfect time to take to the turntables for a little quick mini-mix. This one's about 50 minutes long, some kickin' disco bass, a bit of bad french and tattoo men, but hopefully a lot of fun..
